    Poker game rules must be known by players if they would like to try their hand at this skillful and enjoyable game. The game involves making the best hand of a high rank with the 5 cards you are dealt, by keeping or replacing them. Based on the ranking of a players hand he is awarded his prize.

    Poker Terms

    Hand: the player’s set of card he hold as a combination

    Play: a single game

    Pot: the total amount of money that is bet by players through out the course of the game. It’s the prize players aim to win.

    Hand Tie or Split Pot: when two players make the same hand they split the pot prize between them. If an equal division cannot be made, the excess amount is awarded to the player who called a higher bet.

    Ante: the bet that is placed by all players before the game begins.

    Rake: It’s a commission for the poker room and is calculated as a percentage of the pot in a given hand

    Showdown: players show their cards in the last round of betting to compare the cards and decide the winner.

    Betting Terms

    Call: a player puts the same amount that is there in the pot to call a bet.

    Fold: player can quit the round by placing his cards face down on the poker table

    Raise: player can put an amount bigger than the previous bet in the pot to “raise” the bet.

    Check: a player can choose to pass his turn if there is no previous bet in the round.

    Poker Hand Rankings
    The increasing order of power of cards in poker online games is 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack (J), Queen (Q), King (K) and Ace (A). The Ace is also used at the lowest card as well depending on the hand.

    The ranks from the smallest to the highest are as follows:

    One pair: a hand in which two cards of the five have the same value. If two players have the same pair, the ranking is based on what the rest of the cards in the hand are.

    Two pair: there are two sets of paired cards of same numerical value in the hand

    Three of a kind: three cards of same numerical value in the 5 cards.

    Straight: five cards of different suits are in sequence

    Flush: five cards of the same suit and not in sequence

    Full house: a pair and 3 cards of the same value. Like 5-5-5-2-2

    Four of a Kind: 4 cards of the 5 are of the same value

    Royal Flush: the hand is made of A-K-Q-J-10, all the cards come from the same suit
