With the recent spell of a financial slump, Microgaming, on of the world’s largest online gaming software providers, is forced to liquidate their poker online skins. Two of Microgaming’s licenses dissolved around the time when state of Kentucky lost over 140 gambling domains that were associated with Microgaming. The company lost another 30 of its skins when yet two more of their software users BetonBet Poker and Eurolinx Poker closed down.
The loss of these many skins in such a short period of time was quite a beating to Microgmaing and literally shook up the online poker community world wide. It is unclear the extent of damage these losses have caused the company. Cryptologic, one of Microgaming biggest competitors, swam through the tough economic times thanks to the major overhauling and cost cutting they had undergone in the recent times and by also offering more free poker tournaments. Microgaming may have to follow a similar path if they want to resurface from these troubled waters. With the recent economic instabilities, it is only understandable why fewer people are turning to online gambling for entertainment and are reluctant to spend money on gambling.
The online poker industry is hitting a big low in terms of revenue. However the new changes that may come about in the online gambling legislation’s in the US and Canada that consider the legalization of online gambling may bring some relief to the entire situation.
